Human remains located in Cowlitz River

Detectives are investigating the discovery of human remains located in the Cowlitz River yesterday afternoon.  At approximately 1308 hours, Sheriff’s Office personnel received a call from anglers on a guide boat.  They stated they were fishing in the Cowlitz River near the Mandy Road Boat Launch in Toledo, when they observed what appeared to be fishing waders caught on a branch in the water.  Sheriff’s Office personnel responded and discovered the waders were related to human remains, and with the help of the guide boat, were able to bring the remains to the shore at the boat launch.

Sheriff’s Office personnel, along with the Lewis County Coroner’s Office, are still investigating the cause and manner of death, as well as attempting to identify the deceased.  They are also looking into the possibility the remains may belong to Prathana Nammavong, a 43 year old male from Des Moines, presumed missing while fishing on the Cowlitz River since January of this year.

Anyone with any information on these remains should contact the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office at (360) 748-9286, or Lewis County Communications at (360) 740-1105.
