Deceased Individual Located in Search for Missing Berry Picker

A deceased individual has been located during a search for a missing berry picker in the area of Forest Service Road 45 in Packwood.  On 08/28/18, at approximately 1020 hours, Search and Rescue personnel, located the deceased individual.  Deputies were originally called at 1640 hours on 08/26/18 when an 82 year old female from Yakima could not be located after becoming separated from her berry picking group.  Deputies and Search and Rescue personnel responded and have been involved in ongoing searches since being notified of her being missing on the evening of the 26th.

An autopsy is pending, and the identity of the decedent will be released by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office once identified per their procedures.  The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a standard protocol death investigation into the incident.  While a positive identification has not been made, it is likely the missing female based on circumstances and proximity.
