Upcycled Art Contest at Southwest Washington Fair
Show your creative flare to demonstrate how everyday “throw away” items can become unique, useful, and beautiful creations in the first-ever Upcycled Art Contest at this year’s Southwest Washington Fair. Art will be on display in the Expo Hall during the fair. This contest is a partnership between the WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter Volunteers, WSU Extension, Lewis County Solid Waste Utility, and the Southwest Washington Fair.
Material guidelines: Recycled, repurposed, upcycled items. New materials allowed only for finishing: paint, glue, wire, etc.
Five Divisions: Pee-Wee – preschool and younger; Elementary School – K-5th grade; Middle School – 6-8th grade; High School – 9-12th grade; adult – age 18 and older.
- Rules:
- Artwork must be 100 percent recycled or repurposed material, but a small amount of material, such as paint, glue, wire, fasteners, can be used for finishing the project.
- Must be able to fit in a 3-foot tote or box.
- Entries must be dropped off in the Expo Hall at the SWW Fairgrounds between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Aug. 6 or 9 a.m. and Noon on Aug. 7. Entry forms will be available during drop-off.
- Short explanation regarding the artwork:
- Title of artwork
- Materials reused/repurposed
- Statement about why recycling and repurposing items is important
- How were you inspired to create this piece of art
- For high school entrants and younger, artists name and grade level completed, city/community you live in. Contact number on entry form.
- For adults, name and community you live in. Contact number on entry form.
- Judging will be done by a panel community volunteers and fairgoers.
- All entries will be on display in the Expo Hall during the SWW Fair.
- Entries must be picked up by 8:30 p.m. on the last day of the SWW Fair, Sunday, Aug. 16.
