About Lewis County Solid Waste Utility

The Lewis County Solid Waste Utility is a division of the Lewis County Department of Public Works. It operates transfer stations in Centralia and Morton, where all garbage collected in Lewis County gets dropped off and consolidated in containers to be hauled to a large landfill in Cowlitz County.

LeMay is the hauler that collects curbside garbage as well as refuse from businesses, and brings it to one of the transfer stations. Information about LeMay can be found at this link www.lemayinc.com or by calling 360-736-4769. LeMay also offers curbside recycling services countywide, and curbside organics pickup for most of Lewis County.

The Utility serves Lewis County residents and businesses with several programs to help them with their solid waste management:

  • Recycling drop off at transfer stations in Centralia and Morton
  • Household hazardous waste drop off for residential customers at the transfer station in Centralia every Wednesday and the first and third Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Household hazardous waste drop off for business customers by appointment only by calling 360-740-1221 or emailing an appointment request to swu@lewiscountywa.gov.
  • Household hazardous waste drop off at the transfer station in Morton on the second Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Reduced tipping fees for dropping off separated organic materials for composting. Chippable debris is deposited in one area and grass clipping/leaves/non-chippable items go in a container in the recycling area.
  • Community Recycle Events in the spring and fall in conjunction with Lewis County cities and communities where residents can recycle appliances, scrap metal, yard waste, and other materials, and also have an opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted household chemicals.
