Lewis County Public Health & Social Services is continually working to improve local capacity to respond to public health emergencies. Emergencies and disasters can impact the public's health in many ways. We are working to enhance our Department's internal readiness, in addition to our ability to work more collaboratively with community partners, emergency responders, and elected officials.The Emergency Preparedness Team leads the Department's efforts to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies in Lewis County. The Lewis County Search and Rescue program is under the guidance and direction of the Lewis County Sheriff and his designees. The program is greatly dependent upon the efforts of many volunteers from the local communities and could not exist without their dedication.In 1959 the Mossyrock Search and Rescue Unit was developed to fill the need for an organized search and rescue unit. They were joined by Salkum in 1977 and Packwood in 1978. The Lewis County Road Maintenance Division is responsible for providing cost effective and safe travel over the 1,053 miles of county roadway. To accomplish this, the division has five Road Maintenance area shops, a vegetation & guardrail program, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. Each maintenance area has an appropriate number of personnel and equipment assigned to handle the routine road maintenance, repairs, and storm response duties and responsibilities in their area. Sanitary Control Area Covenants
INTRODUCTIONLewis County Code LCC8.55 includes requirements to protect public drinking water sources. The regulations require that wells be surrounded by an area of sanitary control. The Sanitary Control Area is the area in which activities that could contaminate the drinking water source are not allowed.
