County seeks volunteers to serve on Dangerous Animal Designation Board
Lewis County is looking for volunteers to serve on the Dangerous Animal Designation (DAD) Board, which plays a crucial role in the assessment and designation of dangerous animals to ensure public safety and promote responsible animal ownership.
The DAD Board was established in 2018 in an effort to enhance public participation in the dangerous animal designation process according to Lewis County Code, Chapter 6. 05 Animals.
County residents who receive a dangerous animal notification from Lewis County are required to attend a hearing during which – based on evidence presented – the hearings officer(s) will determine whether an animal is to be declared dangerous. The DAD board conducts these hearings.
The Board meets the first Monday of each month, except when meetings coincide with holidays. Members are expected to attend these meetings regularly to contribute to discussions and decisions. New members will serve three-year terms expiring December 31, 2027.
Those interested in serving on the DAD Board may submit an application and a letter of interest:
- By mail at BOCC, attn: DAD Board vacancy, 351 N.W. North St., Chehalis, WA 98532.
- Via email at Committees@LewisCountywa.gov (include “DAD Board” in the subject line).
- In person at the Commissioners’ Office in Room 210 of the Historic Courthouse at 351 N.W. North St. in Chehalis.
Applications are due by 3 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2024. Application packets are available under the “BOCC News” tab on the bottom right-hand side of the commissioners’ web page at https://lewiscountywa.gov/offices/commissioners
