County seeks applicant for Civil Service Commission

The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is seeking a volunteer to serve on the Lewis County Civil Service Commission.

The Civil Service Commission’s duties include the following:

  • Assist, as needed, in determining the annual budget.
  • Volunteer, as needed, to attend testing and other opportunities that may arise.
  • Maintain and approve Civil Service rules in compliance with state law.
  • Provide for, formulate and hold competitive tests to determine the relative qualifications of persons who seek employment and establish eligibility lists.
  • Hear and determine appeals or complaints regarding Civil Service examinations and certain other employment actions.

The three-member commission meets at 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month in the Lewis County Sheriff's Office Training Room at 345 W. Main Street in Chehalis.

Civil Service Commission members are appointed by the BOCC and serve three-year terms. To be considered, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen who is registered to vote and who has been a Lewis County resident for at least two years prior to their appointment. The successful applicant will complete the remainder of an unexpired term that runs through Dec. 31, 2026.

  • By mail at BOCC, attn. Civil Service vacancy, 351 N.W. North St., Chehalis, WA 98532.
  • Via email at Committees@LewisCountywa.gov (include “Civil Service” in the subject line).
  • In person at the Commissioners’ Office in Room 210 of the Historic Courthouse at 351 N.W. North St. in Chehalis.
