Lewis County outreach project will help customers identify recyclable items

Determining what to place in your curbside recycling container and what goes in the garbage will soon become easier for you, thanks to a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE).

Beginning Monday, Apr. 17, a cart-tagging project will educate recycling customers in Lewis County in an effort to reduce the amount of garbage that goes into curbside recycling bins.

Lewis County Commissioners invite you to your renewed county parks

You’re invited to the crown jewels of Lewis County Parks! Schaefer Park in Centralia, South County Park in Toledo, Rose Park in Adna and Fairgrounds Park at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds.

They’re open for everyone to see – a place to stroll among the trees, rivers and creeks, for families to picnic and kids to romp and play on new playground and fitness equipment.

New play sets, swings, slides and bouncy animals for kids, plus gazebos, picnic and bar-b-que areas and freshly groomed trails and lush green grounds.

Lewis County Veterans will soon be offered peer counseling services in addition to housing, health care and other community resources provided by the county veterans’ relief funds.

Open House set for Lewis County Transportation improvement projects

The efforts to alleviate local traffic congestion continues. Lewis County Public Works, the City of Centralia and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) are hosting an open house to provide citizens with an update on the Reynolds Avenue/Harrison Avenue Corridor Improvement Project and the North Lewis County Industrial Access Transportation Study.

Lewis County Broadband Team requests public input

The Lewis County Broadband Action Team (LCBAT), a citizens’ group conducting local broadband planning to qualify Lewis County for federal broadband expansion funds, is seeking information from community groups, internet service providers, and institutions to support the effort.

Lewis County Facilities Administrator favors long lasting building maintenance

Lewis County Capital Campus construction projects continue to take shape in and around the historic county courthouse in Chehalis.

County Facilities Department crews and contractors are placing final touches on a new Lewis County Public Works Building at 57 W. Main Street, the former Main Street Professional Building.

Lewis County Health Officer reports new state facemask recommendations

Lewis County Public Health and Social Services reports the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has announced an end to the universal mask requirements in healthcare, long-term care, and adult correctional facilities for people age 5 and older, beginning April 3.

Lewis County Commissioners name Steve Wohld as interim County Manager

The Lewis County Commissioners on Tuesday appointed Chief of Internal Services Steve Wohld as interim County Manager. Wohld, 42, will succeed Erik Martin, whose last day is April 3.

“Thank you for the support and I’ll do my best to keep things moving forward,” Wohld told the commissioners.

Lewis County extends search for night-by-night shelter provider

The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners has granted a two-week extension for submissions to a Request for Proposals (RFP) related to a future shelter program. The RFP, which seeks a provider to collaboratively design a permanent night-by-night shelter program with county staff, technical consultants, and citizen advisory committee members, now allows proposals to be submitted until 4 p.m. April 11, 2023.
