WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers are hosting a Basic Home Composting Workshop at Centralia College East in Morton as part of the Repair & Sustainability Fair at 11 a.m. on March 22. Learn how to convert organic materials from your yard, garden, and kitchen into nutrient rich compost to improve your soil, promote healthy plants, and reduce pesky pests! Participants who are interested can enter their names into a drawing for a free compost bin. This event is free to the public. Support for this workshop is provided in part by the Washington State Department of Ecology.

Don't wait to recycling your Christmas trees!
Residents can drop off their Christmas trees and burned out holiday lights today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Centralia transfer station at 1411 S. Tower Ave. The event concludes on Sunday! Please remove all decorations and tinsel from the trees. The office has Reserve Deputy Coroner Academy which is a volunteer, non-paid position. The training consists of classroom, office responsibilities, ride along with law enforcement, observing dispatch and assisting Deputy Coroners on calls and in office.Reserve Deputy Coroners ride along with Deputy Coroners to scenes and assist with investigations under the supervision of the Deputy Coroner. Municipal Solid Waste (garbage): $120 per ton ($20.00 minimum for 340 pounds or less). A 3.6 percent refuse tax is added to each transaction. The fees are rounded using standard rounding rules. Municipal solid waste/garbage includes all household trash, business waste, mattresses, couches, furniture, noxious weeds, construction/demolition debris, etc. Loads of garbage cannot include ammunition, hazardous waste or liquid waste.Stumps/Trees/Branches: $100.00 per ton ($15.00 minimum for 300 pounds or less).
