    Pursuant to RCW 36.58.100 et seq., the Lewis County Solid Waste Disposal District (LCSWDD) No. 1, a quasi-municipal corporation, was established by Ordinance 1124 (now LCC 8.15.150) in 1992, after Lewis County and all incorporated cities signed an interlocal agreement to form it. In addition to forming the district, the agreement established flow control, directing all solid waste generated in Lewis County to be disposed of at LCSWDD sites.   4. Community Recycle Events, Repair & Sustainability Fair, Workshops

    Lewis County is working with cities and communities to offer free recycling events and opportunities to properly dispose of certain materials. Please see the Schedule of Events for 2026 listed below.The events are offered to Lewis County residents only, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If some recycling containers fill up on the day of the event, that particular recycling opportunity may be closed due to storage and space limitations.   5. Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee meets today (4/9)

    The Lewis County SWAC meets at 1:00 p.m. the second Wednesday of every other month in the new Lewis County Public Works Building, 57 W. Main St., Chehalis, WA 98532. If a regularly scheduled meeting lands on a holiday, members may elect to cancel the meeting or vote to meet on an alternate date. Meetings are open to the public, and offered online via Zoom.     The Utility Services Division is responsible for establishing, operating, and maintaining public systems for the supply, treatment, and distribution of water and for the collection and treatment of wastewater and stormwater.   7. Tire Recycling Events

    When grant funding becomes available, Lewis County Code Enforcement and Lewis County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Utility Division partner to hold tire recycling events.At these events, passenger and light truck tires will be accepted for free, and the tires can be on or off the rim.   10. Scrap Metal Recycling Event near Vader and Winlock today

    Lewis County residents may recycle scrap metal and household appliances for free at the old solid waste drop box at 1105 Winlock-Vader Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 7 at a special recycling event organized by the City of Vader and Lewis County Solid Waste Utility. Household appliances accepted in the recycling containers at the event include washers, dryers, hot water heaters, stoves/ranges, and dish washers.
