Dangerous Animal Designation Board Volunteers Sought
Lewis County Public Health & Social Services (LCPHSS) is seeking community volunteers to serve on a newly formed Dangerous Animal Designation (DAD) Board. This five-member board will conduct hearings when county residents receive a dangerous animal notification from Lewis County. Applications are also available on the third floor of the LCPHSS building at 360 NW North Street in downtown Chehalis. Application deadline is Friday, September 28, 2018. Once all applications are reviewed, the Lewis County Board of Commissioners will appoint five candidates to three-year terms on the DAD Board. More

Passing of K-9 Axel
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of LCSO K-9 Axel, who served our community from February 2013 until his retirement in August of 2021.Over the course of his career, K-9 Axel and his handler, now-Chief Rick Van Wyck, are credited with the successful capture of 39 suspects and the location of 117 articles of evidence and/or stolen property, as well as the discovery of 397.3 pounds of street drugs and over 1,600 Oxycodone pills, with a total value of over four million dollars.K-9 Axel passed away at home peacefully while surrounded by the Van Wyck family, on August …

Every year Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responds to preventable drowning deaths related to swimming and boating accidents. As warm weather approaches, the Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the public of a few safety precautions before taking a dip in the waterways of Lewis County. Water temperatures in Lewis County are still in the mid 40’s on almost all waterways. Cold water shock and hypothermia are major concerns for anyone exposed to these types of water temperatures for any length of time. Lewis County Public Works crews finish preventive maintenance on county roads
Lewis County Public Works crew applying chip seal rock to a road outside of Adna. CHEHALIS – Lewis County Public Works road maintenance crews have completed their annual summer preventative maintenance chip seal projects.County road crews placed 63,000 gallons of oil and 1.3 million square yards of crushed rock while resurfacing approximately 100 miles of county roads over the summer.“It’s the most efficient way to preserve our roads,” Lewis County Road Maintenance Supervisor Justin Bushnell said. “The county’s goal is to resurface roads every seven to 10 years.”“The oil is sealing up the road and preserving everything underneath it,” Bushnell …

A subarea plan is a road map that guides how a specific geography, like Packwood, will grow and develop over the next 20 years. The plan states a vision, goals, and policies for the area. The plan gets adopted as part of the Lewis County Comprehensive Plan and is used to determine updates to zoning maps and development regulations, as well as capital facilities plans for infrastructure like sewer or water.
