  5. Recycle fluorescent lights accepted in Morton today (3/12)

    Residents may drop of household hazardous waste, including up to 15 compact fluorescent lights, for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 U.S. Hwy 12, just east of Morton. Examples of household hazardous materials that can be dropped off are cleaners, lawn, garden, and pool chemicals.   7. Design

    The Engineering Design Section develops roadway designs using local and state guidelines required for traffic volume, terrain, design speed, safety features, storm water runoff, and environmental concerns. Design production may be handled in-house or by contractors. Designs for new bridges are contracted to a structural engineer. Once the designs are complete, staff members help prepare contract specifications for open and competitive bidding by road and bridge construction companies. Inspection of contractors' construction operation are also handled by the staff from the Design, Construction, and Survey Sections.

    Volunteers in the cities of Chehalis, Centralia, and sometimes other communities in Lewis County organize volunteers to pick up litter. The city of Chehalis has a group of active volunteers called the Chehalis Clean Team.   9. Contracting (Consultants, Rosters, & Bids)

    The Public Works Department procures services, equipment, and materials in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations.   10. Deferred Disposition

    Under the deferred disposition sentencing option, youth are on supervision for 12 months and have several requirements including restitution, community service, compliance with curfew and attending school. Specific rules will also apply based on the individual youth. If the youth does not commit another crime during the 12 month probation period, then the charge is dismissed and cleared from their criminal history. Excluded from this program include youth who: Have committed a sex offense Have committed a violent offense Have a criminal history that includes a felony Have had a previous Deferred Disposition Has had two or more adjudications
