    Sensitive Document Shredding: Residents may bring up to 3 bags or boxes or sensitive documents they would like to have shredded from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 17. There is no charge for this service. The shredded paper will be recycled at a paper recycling facility at the conclusion of the event. The event will take place in the parking lot of Dailey Storage, 110 7th St., Vader, WA 98593.

    The LeMay Mobile Shredding truck will be at the Community Recycle Event at the Lewis County Road Shop, 111 Pleasant Valley Road, Winlock, between Napavine and Winlock, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 25. Residents may bring up to 3 bags or boxes or sensitive documents they would like to have shredded. There is no charge for this service. The shredded paper will be hauled to a paper recycling facility for processing.

    The Lewis County of Commissioners will host a public hearing on or after 10 a.m. March 11 in the Commissioners' hearing room on the second floor of the Historic Lewis County Courthouse in Chehalis.     WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers are hosting a Basic Home Composting Workshop at Centralia College East in Morton as part of the Repair & Sustainability Fair at 11 a.m. on March 22. Learn how to convert organic materials from your yard, garden, and kitchen into nutrient rich compost to improve your soil, promote healthy plants, and reduce pesky pests! Participants who are interested can enter their names into a drawing for a free compost bin. This event is free to the public. Support for this workshop is provided in part by the Washington State Department of Ecology.

    Lewis County residents can drop off unwanted household chemicals, up to five gallons of used motor oil, aerosol (spray) cans), and up to 10 burned out fluorescent light bulbs at Hazo Hut at the East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 US Hwy 12, Morton, today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. These are the limits for each household each day that the Hazo Hut is open. This time is reserved for residential customers only. Business customers must make an appointment by calling 360-740-1221 or emailing swu@lewiscountywa.gov.

    Know Your Soil and How to Improve it with Compost!: Attend this WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter workshop at 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Centralia Timberland Library to learn how to test your soil. By knowing your soil type (or which nutrients it may be lacking) you can make it better with compost.
