The Lewis County Segregation/Mapping processes recorded deeds and other conveyance instruments for real property to verify recorded legal descriptions, create, segregate and combine tax parcels. The County Geographic Information System (GIS) database is updated and kept at a current status. The Department updates ownership on all real estate transfers. The method of acquiring title is determined, ownership and legal descriptions are verified, and land area computed when necessary. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program that educates residents about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT members are trained to safely respond to an emergency on the family, neighborhood and community level, and can provide assistance when first responders are unavailable. Cell phones have proven to be invaluable tools for help in an emergency. Quick access to 911 services is a common reason people choose to purchase wireless phones.However, wireless phones can easily dial 911 without the phone owner being aware that a 911 call has been made. It is estimated that accidental dialing causes over 20% of the wireless 911 calls in Lewis County. Accidental 911 calls can occur when a phone is placed in a pocket or purse, and gets bumped. …
