Leaf Exchange (12/2)
Rake up and bag your leaves so gardeners and composters can put them to good use. This is the final Leaf Exchange of the year! Bagged leaves may be dropped off on the event day. Leaves will be available for pickup each day on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers will be on hand to inspect leaves and help the event run smoothly. Collaboration in the face of Rapid Growth
A group of local governments—the City of Chehalis, the Port of Chehalis, Twin Transit, and Lewis County—are collaborating to reckon with the rapid growth expected in south Chehalis and its adjacent urban growth area (UGA). New Additions to the Washington State Noxious Weed List 2018
Invasive plants harm our state’s farms, economy and native ecosystems, and we all share responsibility for working to prevent, control and, where possible, eradicate them. Learning how to recognize noxious weeds is a basic element of good stewardship of our natural resources. New weed additions include: Small-flowered Jewleweed, Impatiens parviflora as a Class A noxious weed European coltsfoot, Tussilago farfara as a Class B designate weed Malta starthistle, Centaurea melitensis as a Class B designate weed Spotted jewelweed, Impatiens capensis as a Class C weed Eurasian watermilfoil hybrid, Myriophyllum spicatum x M. We want your comments on the draft 2023 Lewis County Solid & Hazardous Waste Management Plan! This plan includes strategies to manage waste in the county over the next 20 years with more in-depth focus on the next six years. Lewis County Department of Public Works Solid Waste Utility has been working with the Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) and the consulting firm Herrera Environmental to update the document. Community Recycle Event scheduled for Napavine-Winlock area
Lewis County residents will have an opportunity to properly dispose of household hazardous waste and recycle several items for free at a special event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 at the Lewis County Road Shop, 111 Pleasant Valley Road, Winlock, WA 98596. They can bring in up to 10 fluorescent lights, 5 gallons of motor oil, 5 gallons of antifreeze, and 5 gallons of cooking oil per household. No containers larger than 5 gallons will be accepted. The event will take place from *10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (except where noted) at the Lewis County Area 7 Road Shop (Kiona), 8911 US Hwy 12, Randle, WA 98377.Satellite Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event: Residential customers may drop off their unwanted or left-over cleaners, lawn, garden, pool chemicals, and other household chemicals.
