CHEHALIS, WA – The Lewis County Public Defense Office is currently accepting applications from qualified attorneys to provide public defense services for individuals who are financially unable to retain private counsel. Openings are available for Public Defenders and Conflict Attorneys in Lewis County Superior Court, District Court, and Juvenile Court.Lewis County Public Defense provides legal representation in felony and misdemeanor criminal, probation violation, and juvenile offender cases for individuals who meet the financial eligibility requirements under RCW 10.101. The Prosecuting Attorney is the chief legal officer for Lewis County. The primary mission of a Prosecuting Attorney is to enforce criminal laws and work for the victims of crime. This includes obtaining orders for restitution for the victim, informing the victim of court dates, and acting as an advocate for the victim at trial and sentencing. Lewis County Superior Court is a state trial court of general jurisdiction situated in Lewis County. This court has state-wide jurisdiction and hears major criminal matters (felonies), civil cases including cases involving real property, domestic relations matters, appeals from lower courts (Lewis County District and Municipal Courts), and appeals from state administrative agencies.
