1845-1847 United States Marshall Joe Meek became the first official Law Enforcement Officer in Lewis County. The northern county boundary was reset at the 49th parallel, the present United States/Canadian Border, in 1846. 1847-1848 John R. Household Hazardous Waste Satellite Collection Event: Morton
Lewis County residents may drop off unwanted household chemicals and fluorescent lights from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the East Lewis County Transfer Station in Morton as part of the Utility's Household Hazardous Waste Satellite Events. Other recycling opportunities at this event: Styrofoam recycling and E-Cycle Recycling. The event will accept block and food service Styrofoam as long it is clean, empty, dry. Please keep like materials together in a clear plastic bag for drop-off. For E-Cycle items (televisions smaller than 55 inches, CPUs, and monitors) there is a limit of two items per household.

Chips for Trails in Vader
The Third Annual Chips for Trails event will take place at McMurphy Park off Annonen Road in Vader in celebration of Earth Day. The Vader Parks Board, volunteers and city staff will be collecting branches and brush for chipping during this time. The material will be chipped up and spread onto trails of the Vader park. During the event, Lewis County residents are permitted to drop off brush and branches to be chipped that are no larger than 5 inches in diameter. The Lewis County Noxious Weed Control Board has vacancies on its five-member board. The vacancies occurs in Weed District Four and Five. Nancy Toenyan, the current Board members for District Four and Victor Khvoroff of District Five have expressed a willingness to serve another term with the Weed Board. Lewis County Seeks Consultant for Comprehensive Plan Update
Lewis County and all cities in the county are required by the Washington State Growth Management Act to update their comprehensive plans. The Lewis County Comprehensive Plan identifies a vision for the future for the community, and establishes a set of long-term goals, policies and land use patterns for growth over a 20-year period. Updates will include changes to the zoning map and development regulations. The updates must be completed by June 2025. Motor Oil and Antifreeze Recycling Customers bringing oil to the Central Transfer Station, 1411 S. Tower Ave., Centralia, are only be permitted to drop off motor oil and antifreeze on Wednesdays and the first and third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the Hazo Hut is open. Each customer will be permitted to drop off 5 gallons of motor oil during these times. RCW 70A.224.030 limits each household to depositing 5 gallons of motor oil each day.
