    Every year, the Washington State Weed Board adopts a noxious weed list, which goes into effect on the first of January. In the following months, the Lewis County Noxious Weed Control Board adopts its own, county-level, weed list. This list includes a number of Class A and B-Designate noxious weeds that are essentially orders from the state weed board to the county weed board, and are required for either total eradication or to have their seed production stopped within the county whenever possible.     CHEHALIS – A coalition of 22 Washington State counties, including Lewis County, have joined the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) in filing a lawsuit against the State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) over the department’s decision to stop providing behavioral health evaluation and treatment support for certain individuals being released from jail.When an individual with a serious mental health condition exits the criminal justice system or has their charges dismissed, DSHS is ordered by the court to offer an evaluation and if necessary, treatment.     CORRECTIONS BUREAU– CHIEF CHRIS SWEET The Corrections Bureau encompasses the Lewis County Jail. The Lewis County Jail was remodeled in 2005 and is approximately 69,000 square feet.The Corrections Bureau is comprised of a Captain, Lieutenant, six Sergeants, forty-one Corrections Deputies, an Administrative Assistant and five Support Technicians. CUSTODY DIVISION: The Custody Division is directly supervised by a Lieutenant and consists of four custody squads. A sergeant leads each squad and each squad is comprised of seven or eight Corrections Deputies. The Custody squads work 12 hour shifts, and have 3-4 days off per week.     PRESS RELEASE Lewis County Public Works would like to announce that the Jackson Highway Bridge crossing the Newaukum River will be open to traffic on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 4 p.m. Future work will occur, with flagger-controlled, one-way traffic during working hours and unrestricted two-way traffic during non-working hours. The bridge replacement contract was awarded to Rognlin’s Incorporated (Aberdeen, WA) in the amount of $2,153,027. Differing site conditions encountered during excavation for the bridge approach work required modified design and modified approach work.
