Passing of K-9 Axel
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of LCSO K-9 Axel, who served our community from February 2013 until his retirement in August of 2021.Over the course of his career, K-9 Axel and his handler, now-Chief Rick Van Wyck, are credited with the successful capture of 39 suspects and the location of 117 articles of evidence and/or stolen property, as well as the discovery of 397.3 pounds of street drugs and over 1,600 Oxycodone pills, with a total value of over four million dollars.K-9 Axel passed away at home peacefully while surrounded by the Van Wyck family, on August …

Lewis County residents may recycle up to 15 passenger or light truck tires on or off the rim from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9, 10 and 11 at a special community recycling event at the Pe Ell Town Hall, 111 Main St., Pe Ell, WA 98572. Tires should be dropped off in the lot behind town hall. The event is for residential customers only. Please do not bring tires from business customers, semi-truck tires or heavy equipment tires. Residents can drop off their Christmas trees, burned out holiday lights, block Styrofoam and food service Styrofoam from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Centralia transfer station at 1411 S. Tower Ave. Please remove all decorations and tinsel from the trees. Flocked and artificial trees will not be accepted. You may dispose of them at the transfer station, where regular fees will apply ($15 minimum for 280 pounds or less.) Tire Recycling Event in Packwood (10/14)
Lewis County residents may recycle up to 12 tires per household for free today at the Packwood Community Hall. Tires can be passenger or light truck tires, on or off the rim, or semi-truck tires off the rim. The event will not be able to accept any other type of tire. Customers should be prepared to show proof of Lewis County residency. They will also be expected to unload their own tires. INTERNSHIPS: The Lewis County Coroner's Office does accept students as interns as long as they are enrolled in a college or university that is accredited through the US Department of Education as well as the College for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). This office does not accept applications or inquiries directly from students. Students must go through their school internship or co-operative coordinator to apply for an internship.
