    Residents may drop of household hazardous waste for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 U.S. Hwy 12, just east of Morton. Examples of household hazardous materials that can be dropped off are cleaners, lawn, garden, and pool chemicals.     The Lewis County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, is a countywide plan that identifies risks and ways to minimize damage by natural and manmade disasters. The plan is a comprehensive resource document that serves many purposes such as enhancing public awareness, creating a decision tool for management, promoting compliance with Washington State and Federal program requirements, enhancing local policies for hazard mitigation capability, and providing inter-jurisdictional coordination.The federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires all local governments to create such a disaster plan in order to qualify for hazard mitigation funding.Lewis County tackled this planning effort on a region wide basis, …

    Know Your Soil and How to Improve it with Compost!: Attend this WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter workshop at 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Centralia Timberland Library to learn how to test your soil. By knowing your soil type (or which nutrients it may be lacking) you can make it better with compost.     The Surface Water / Utilities Section is responsible for the following functions: Reviewing applications of proposed developments for concerns impacting Public Works. Determining that stormwater submittals meet requirements of local stormwater regulations. Addressing drainage of public roads and right-of-ways. Providing hydrologic and hydraulic assistance within Public Works, and to other departments and programs. Obtaining agency environmental permits for Public Works projects. Evaluating adequate stormwater management measures to meet specific local, state, and federal requirements.
