  3. Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee meets today (4/9)

    The Lewis County SWAC meets at 1:00 p.m. the second Wednesday of every other month in the new Lewis County Public Works Building, 57 W. Main St., Chehalis, WA 98532. If a regularly scheduled meeting lands on a holiday, members may elect to cancel the meeting or vote to meet on an alternate date. Meetings are open to the public, and offered online via Zoom.     Lewis County residents can drop off unwanted household chemicals, up to five gallons of used motor oil, and up to 10 burned out fluorescent light bulbs at Hazo Hut at the Lewis County Central Transfer Station, 1411 S. Tower Ave., Centralia, today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. These are the limits for each household each day that the Hazo Hut is open. This time is reserved for residential customers only.   5. Recycle fluorescent lights accepted in Morton today (3/12)

    Residents may drop of household hazardous waste, including up to 15 compact fluorescent lights, for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 U.S. Hwy 12, just east of Morton. Examples of household hazardous materials that can be dropped off are cleaners, lawn, garden, and pool chemicals.   6. Design

    The Engineering Design Section develops roadway designs using local and state guidelines required for traffic volume, terrain, design speed, safety features, storm water runoff, and environmental concerns. Design production may be handled in-house or by contractors. Designs for new bridges are contracted to a structural engineer. Once the designs are complete, staff members help prepare contract specifications for open and competitive bidding by road and bridge construction companies. Inspection of contractors' construction operation are also handled by the staff from the Design, Construction, and Survey Sections.
