Counties sue state agency over lack of behavioral health care treatment services
CHEHALIS – A coalition of 22 Washington State counties, including Lewis County, have joined the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) in filing a lawsuit against the State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) over the department’s decision to stop providing behavioral health evaluation and treatment support for certain individuals being released from jail.When an individual with a serious mental health condition exits the criminal justice system or has their charges dismissed, DSHS is ordered by the court to offer an evaluation and if necessary, treatment. Detectives Seek Information on Missing Person - Kayla Mae Croft-Payne
Detectives from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the disappearance of 18 year old Kayla Mae Croft-Payne. Kayla was reported missing to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on May 5, 2010. Kayla was residing in Lewis County, but her last known location was in the Cowlitz County area. Kayla is also known to frequent Grays Harbor and Pierce County. Kayla is described as a white female, 5’06”, 105 pounds, blue eyes and brown hair. Call for Citizen Scientists. Learn to Detect Invasive Plant Species
A volunteer effort to learn and detect invasive plants is underway by the Pacific North West Invasive Plant Council. A training for citizens will take place Thursday June 29th from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Old Credit Union Building, 156 NW Chehalis Ave., Chehalis, WA. The training will cover identification of plants, methods of manual control, along with how to conduct a survey. The work will support our local public lands including the National Forest and National Parks to document emerging invasive plant populations.
