    Background Lewis County is seeking sustainable funding to help support essential local services, including public safety, infrastructure, and community programs. Cannabis sales currently are permitted in our surrounding counties and in most of the cities located in Lewis County. Between July 2023 and June 2024, cannabis sales in those cities totaled roughly $9 million. While the state collects a 37% excise tax on those sales, local jurisdictions that permit retail locations receive a dedicated portion of shared state tax revenue.     WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers are hosting a Basic Home Composting Workshop at Centralia College East in Morton as part of the Repair & Sustainability Fair at 11 a.m. on March 22. Learn how to convert organic materials from your yard, garden, and kitchen into nutrient rich compost to improve your soil, promote healthy plants, and reduce pesky pests! Participants who are interested can enter their names into a drawing for a free compost bin. This event is free to the public.     Do I need a permit to replace my pump? No. Work that is conducted within the septic/pump tank does not require a permit generally. Examples of this type of work that do NOT require a permit includes cleaning, changing, or retrofitting your tank with an effluent filter, measuring sludge accumulation, pumping the septic tank/pump chamber, or cleaning of the back-flow prevention valve.
