Commissioners offer County Manager job to man with local roots
Ryan Barrett CHEHALIS- After an extensive nationwide search, the Lewis County Commissioners have selected an individual with local roots as their next County Manager.The commissioners offered their top position Wednesday to Ryan Barrett, a former Lewis County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant who now oversees more than 100 employees as a captain with the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Wash. Recycle used antifreeze at Hazo Hut today
Lewis County residents can drop off unwanted household chemicals, up to five gallons of used motor oil, up to five gallons of used antifreeze, and up to 10 burned out fluorescent light bulbs at Hazo Hut at the Lewis County Central Transfer Station, 1411 S. Tower Ave., Centralia, today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. These are the limits for each household each day that the Hazo Hut is open. This time is reserved for residential customers only. Business customers must make an appointment by calling 360-740-1221 or emailing swu@lewiscountywa.gov.

Code Red Alert - Pleasant Valley Road Near Mineral
CODE RED ALERT FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN THE AREA OF PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD NEAR MINERAL The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a Code Red notification for the people living in the area of Pleasant Valley Road near Mineral. The Alder Lake fire has reached a level 1 evacuation trigger. This means that danger exists and you should begin making arrangements to evacuate. Evacuations at this time are voluntary. If the fire advances to level 2 you will receive further evacuation notification. Shelter will be setup in the Morton area at that time. Again, this is a Code Red level …

Basic Compost Workshop in Morton
WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers are hosting a Basic Home Composting Workshop at Centralia College East in Morton as part of the Repair & Sustainability Fair. Learn how to convert organic materials from your yard, garden, and kitchen into nutrient rich compost to improve your soil, promote healthy plants, and reduce pesky pests! Participants who are interested can enter their names into a drawing for a free compost bin. This event is free to the public. Support for this workshop is provided in part by the Washington State Department of Ecology.

Surface Water / Utilities
The Surface Water / Utilities Section is responsible for the following functions: Reviewing applications of proposed developments for concerns impacting Public Works. Determining that stormwater submittals meet requirements of local stormwater regulations. Addressing drainage of public roads and right-of-ways. Providing hydrologic and hydraulic assistance within Public Works, and to other departments and programs. Obtaining agency environmental permits for Public Works projects. Evaluating adequate stormwater management measures to meet specific local, state, and federal requirements. Administering consultant contracts for specific water management and environmental projects. Applying for grants to fund surface water management and environmental project.

Open Public Meeting Act Training
In partnership with the Washington State Attorney General's Office, this course is provided for commissioners and board members to help meet an important training requirement of the Open Government Trainings Act.
