          The image of reddish stems dotted by small pink flowers makes the low-growing Shiny Geranium look attractive. It is however a weed that is considered noxious and is seriously unwelcomed in urban and rural household gardens and forests.  Why?  Because it thrives anywhere it can get started and will quickly crowd out natural and desired vegetation.   9. Additions to 2013 Weed List

    The Washington State Noxious Weed Board adopted the 2013 State Noxious Weed List at their November 7, 2012 meeting. The 2013 list includes a number of changes from 2012, including a few new species. All of the changes are detailed on the “What’s New” page of the Washington State Noxious Weed Board website http://www.nwcb.wa.gov/. Some of the new weed additions include: French broom, Genista monspessulana, as a Class A noxious weed.   10. Know Your Soils Workshop

    Know Your Soils: Attend this WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter workshop to learn how to test your soil. By knowing your soil type, you can make it better with compost. After registering, you will receive instructions on how to prepare a soil sample and what other materials you will need for the class. The registration deadline to attend the in-person class, and receive a free soil-test kit was Feb. 16. You may still be able to watch the workshop via Zoom.
