Learn how to Save Food, Save Money at Centralia College
In the United States, a typical family of four throws away an estimated $3,000 in groceries each year. Americans throw away approximately 325 pounds of food per person each year. Organics is the largest category of materials thrown away in landfills in Washington state. Lewis County Solid Waste staff and WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composters will share more about these statistics at a presentation at 11 a.m. in at Centralia College's TransAlta Commons B in honor of Earth Week activities. Solid Waste Utility staff provides year-round educational programs to the entire community. Transfer Station Tours Solid Waste Utility staff members are available to provide tours of the Centralia Transfer Station in Centralia. To see the facilities first hand, please call the office to arrange a tour at 360-740-1451 or email swu@lewiscountywa.gov. School Classroom Presentations Solid Waste Utility education staff members and WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers are happy to come into your classroom to teach about waste reduction, recycling, composting, proper hazardous waste management, and garbage. Spring Repair & Sustainability Fair
Repair & Sustainability Fair: The WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter (MRC) volunteers are teaming up with Centralia College, the Lewis County Solid Waste Utility and others in the community to offer the Repair & Sustainability Fair to the area residents. It will be located in the SWFT Centralia at Centralia College at 807 W. Pear Street.Volunteer fixers will be on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A "Composting Basics" Workshop is scheduled for 11 a.m. It will teach how to get started in composting organic material, including yard waste and kitchen waste. Release Information
Juveniles can only be released to their parent/guardian. If the parent/guardian is unable to pick up the juvenile upon release, there must be prior approval from the juvenile’s Probation Officer.The parent/guardian must provide proper identification prior to the juvenile’s release.*Medication will only be released to the parent/guardian.If a parent/guardian refuses to pick up the juvenile from Juvenile Detention, the Juvenile Court staff will notify the local law enforcement agency and Child Protective Services (CPS) to report abandonment.

Holiday recycling event starts in Centralia
Residents can drop off their Christmas trees and burned out holiday lights starting today, Saturday and Sunday of this week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Centralia transfer station at 1411 S. Tower Ave. The event will continue for three consecutive weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Please remove all decorations and tinsel from the trees. Donations will be accepted to support WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteer community outreach programs. Flocked and artificial trees will not be accepted.
