In the United States, a typical family of four throws away an estimated $3,000 in groceries each year. Americans throw away approximately 325 pounds of food per person each year. Organics is the largest category of materials thrown away in landfills in Washington state. Medical WasteStericycle offers disposal services for sharps and other medical waste. See the web site for contact information.Sharps DisposalResidential sharps (needles and diabetic lancets) are both dangerous and a biological hazard. Proper management is required to prevent injury and the spread of disease. Please use an approved sharps container for needles and lancets. Residents may drop of household hazardous waste for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 U.S. Hwy 12, just east of Morton. Examples of household hazardous materials that can be dropped off are cleaners, lawn, garden, and pool chemicals.
