Packwood Subarea Plan
A subarea plan is a road map that guides how a specific geography, like Packwood, will grow and develop over the next 20 years. The plan states a vision, goals, and policies for the area. The plan gets adopted as part of the Lewis County Comprehensive Plan and is used to determine updates to zoning maps and development regulations, as well as capital facilities plans for infrastructure like sewer or water. Counties sue state agency over lack of behavioral health care treatment services
CHEHALIS – A coalition of 22 Washington State counties, including Lewis County, have joined the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) in filing a lawsuit against the State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) over the department’s decision to stop providing behavioral health evaluation and treatment support for certain individuals being released from jail.When an individual with a serious mental health condition exits the criminal justice system or has their charges dismissed, DSHS is ordered by the court to offer an evaluation and if necessary, treatment. Historic Lewis County Courthouse receives spring cleaning
Bi-annual cleaning and restoration work being done on the Lewis County Courthouse Apr. 13. On the Washington State and National registry of historic places, the Lewis County Courthouse at 351 NW North St. in Chehalis is receiving its spring cleaning over the next several weeks.With the assistance of a grant from the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, the exterior of the 96 year old courthouse is getting pressure washed and a sealer is being applied to the sandstone structure."It's essential to maintain the integrity of the material that was used when the courthouse was first constructed," Lewis …

Special Meeting of the Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (virtual only)
The Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) will host a special meeting at 1:00 p.m. Jan. 10 to receive an overview of the Lewis County Solid & Hazardous Waste Management Plan draft update. A consulting firm, Herrera Environmental, has been working with the SWAC and County staff to update the document. After the overview, and a question-and-answer session, SWAC members will consider whether to recommend the draft document be approved and forwarded to the Department of Ecology for its initial informal review process.
