Lewis County Planning Commission
Purpose The Planning Commission assists the Community Development department in carrying out its duties, including assistance in the preparation and execution of the comprehensive plan and the adoption of development regulations for Lewis County, Washington. The Planning Commission holds workshops and public hearings and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, whom ultimately vote to approve amendments to the County’s comprehensive plan and development regulations. Members The Planning Commission is made up of seven (7) members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Any resident in Lewis County can apply to serve on the Planning Commission. The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is looking for individuals interested in serving on the county’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC), a group of volunteers who help develop programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal.Solid Waste Advisory Committee members weigh in on proposed rules, policies and ordinances, and they help Lewis County Solid Waste Utility staff develop a five-year “Solid Waste Management Plan” to guide how Lewis County manages garbage and recycling. On 04/10/12 the Lewis County Coroner’s Office was awarded accreditation through the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME). This process began in 2011 and culminated with the inspection process on 04/10/12. We are now one of only five coroner’s offices in Washington State to have received accreditation through this association.The IAC&ME has established a set of accreditation standards and these encompass administration, facilities, forensics and investigative for a total of 130 standards. Transportation Improvement ProgramThe Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) represents the county's transportation priorities for a six-year time period and identifies road and bridge construction, and other transportation improvement projects throughout the unincorporated county. The Annual Construction Program (ACP) represents the first year of the program. Pursuant to Washington law and administrative code (RCW 36.81.121 & WAC 136-15-150), every year Public Works prepares a TIP and ACP for adoption by the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners after a public hearing thereon.
