Residents may drop of household hazardous waste for free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Lewis County Central Transfer Station, 1411 S. Tower Ave., Centralia. Examples of household hazardous materials that can be dropped off are cleaners, lawn, garden, pool chemicals, and up to 10 burned out fluorescent lights. Hazo Hut is open every Wednesday, and the first and third Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, please call 360-740-1221 or email swu@lewiscountywa.gov with questions.

Lewis County transfer stations close for Juneteenth holiday
Lewis County Transfer Stations in Centralia and Morton are closed today Thursday, June 19) in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday. This closure includes the Administration Office in Centralia. The transfer stations and Administration Office will resume regular hours on Friday, June 20.

Poison hemlock, poisonous to animals and man
Be alert this spring for Poison hemlock (Conium maculatum), a noxious weed poisonous to sheep, cattle, swine, horses and man. Animals can become poisoned by eating a small amount of the plant. Poison hemlock is common to Lewis County but not a wide spread noxious weed. Often it is associated with old farmsteads and disturbed vacant lots in urban area. The plant can reach a height of three to six feet tall and has light green foliage at flowering. Hemlock flowers in late May and June. Community Recycle Event scheduled for Napavine-Winlock area
Lewis County residents will have an opportunity to properly dispose of household hazardous waste and recycle several items for free at a special event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 at the Lewis County Road Shop, 111 Pleasant Valley Road, Winlock, WA 98596. They can bring in up to 10 fluorescent lights, 5 gallons of motor oil, 5 gallons of antifreeze, and 5 gallons of cooking oil per household. No containers larger than 5 gallons will be accepted.
