Mission Statement:It is the mission of the Noxious Weed Board to serve as responsible stewards of Lewis County land and agriculture, and to protect and preserve our ecological resources against the harms of noxious weeds. We endeavor to develop programs that reflect local priorities, meet the needs of county landowners and residents, and carry out the mandate of the Washington State noxious weed law, the RCW 17.10. The Class Bs featured here are either already found in Lewis County or have been confirmed in neighboring counties and are likely to be introduced. Weeds are often spread unintentionally through the movement of materials, such as hay, dirt, gravel, and woodchips. They are also brought in by pets, animals, floods, ATVs and other vehicles, and watercraft. The Construction and Special Programs Section is responsible for the following: Repair stream bank scour and erosion at bridges. Obtain regulatory agencies’ permits. Apply hydraulic techniques to stabilize and restore stream channels. Repair failed roadway prisms due to slides, sink holes, and waterway erosion. Coordinate repairs to river revetments by contractors and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Provide assistance as the Lewis County R.I.D. (Road Improvement District) Coordinator. Develop inventory systems to manage stream related problems. Test all materials for road and bridge construction projects. Provide Quality Assurance on all materials purchased by the County. Accreditation
On 04/10/12 the Lewis County Coroner’s Office was awarded accreditation through the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME). This process began in 2011 and culminated with the inspection process on 04/10/12. We are now one of only five coroner’s offices in Washington State to have received accreditation through this association.The IAC&ME has established a set of accreditation standards and these encompass administration, facilities, forensics and investigative for a total of 130 standards. Joint hearing to consider the adoption of the draft Lewis County Solid & Hazardous Waste Management Plan update
The Lewis County Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Plan, a document required by Washington State law, RCW 70A.205.040. The law mandates each county prepare a comprehensive solid waste management plan, and update it periodically, is nearing its current update phase. With collaboration from the Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee -- an advisory group to the Lewis County Commissioners, each city within Lewis County, and a consulting team from Herrera Environmental, the Lewis County Solid Waste Utility has completed a draft update of the Lewis County Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Plan.
