Reserve Deputy Coroner Program
The office has Reserve Deputy Coroner Academy which is a volunteer, non-paid position. The training consists of 40 hours of classroom, 20 hours of office training, 4 hours ride along with law enforcement, 2 hours observing dispatch and a minimum of 14 hours riding along with Deputy Coroners observing and assisting in conducting medicolegal investigations at death scenes.
After graduation Reserve Deputy Coroners ride along with Deputy Coroners to scene and gradually perform more complex roles during the investigations.
The Reserve Deputy Coroner program does not guarantee paid employment but when time comes to hire paid Deputy Coroners we naturally look at the Reserve staff first.
At this time there is no plan to start a new Reserve Academy until mid 2023.
