Reserve Deputy Coroner Program

The office has Reserve Deputy Coroner Academy which is a volunteer, non-paid position. The training consists of classroom, office responsibilities, ride along with law enforcement, observing dispatch and assisting Deputy Coroners on calls and in office.

Reserve Deputy Coroners ride along with Deputy Coroners to scenes and assist with investigations under the supervision of the Deputy Coroner. Reserves gradually perform more complex roles during the investigations.

The Reserve Deputy Coroner program does not guarantee paid employment but when time comes to hire paid Deputy Coroners we naturally look at the reserve staff first.

At this time there is no plan to start a new Reserve Academy until 2026.
