Accreditation
On 04/10/12 the Lewis County Coroner’s Office was awarded accreditation through the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME). This process began in 2011 and culminated with the inspection process on 04/10/12. We are now one of only five coroner’s offices in Washington State to have received accreditation through this association.
The IAC&ME has established a set of accreditation standards and these encompass administration, facilities, forensics and investigative for a total of 130 standards. Applying for accreditation means to voluntarily open your office facilities as well as your policies and procedures for examination by a team of auditors to see if they meet these standards.
Our physical office facilities passed inspection with flying colors. We also achieved 90% compliance with the administrative and the facilities standards, 95% compliance with the forensic standards and 100% compliance with the investigative standards for an overall 94% compliancy. This means that our office facilities and our operating procedures are in compliance with the established international standards for coroner’s offices.
The preliminary awarding of accreditation on 04/10/12 was followed by the formal documentation within fourteen days and the issuance of certificates at the annual IAC&ME conference in June 2012.
This accreditation is the result of many months of hard work by all of the members of this office and I am very proud of each of them.
In 2017 we received our re-accreditation.
2022: We are now going through the process of having our accreditation renewed.
