CHEHALIS - When it’s necessary to seek a protection order in Lewis County Superior Court, a simplified and convenient method is being offered by the Lewis County Clerk.

A link on the Clerk’s website will allow an individual to complete and submit the necessary forms for filing a petition for protection order.

A petition for a protection order can be filed in cases of alleged domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, anti-harassment, protections for vulnerable adults, and in incidents of extreme risk.

Plans are to place a kiosk outside the clerk’s office at the Law and Justice Center in Chehalis and a process is being developed to provide automatic notification to petitioners to electronically track the progress of the petition.

“There are many positive benefits of having options in how an individual can submit documents,” said Lewis County Clerk Scott Tinney. “It eliminates putting someone at potential risk when coming to the Law and Justice Center to file.”

Tinney added that the electronic submission of documents eliminates some of the transportation and childcare issues associated with having to do business at the courthouse.
