About the Prosecutor
The Prosecuting Attorney is the chief legal officer for Lewis County. The primary mission of a Prosecuting Attorney is to enforce criminal laws and work for the victims of crime. This includes obtaining orders for restitution for the victim, informing the victim of court dates, and acting as an advocate for the victim at trial and sentencing. The Prosecuting Attorney also acts as legal counsel to the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners and county departments, assists in certain child support cases, and performs a number of other statutory duties. Counties sue state agency over lack of behavioral health care treatment services
CHEHALIS – A coalition of 22 Washington State counties, including Lewis County, have joined the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) in filing a lawsuit against the State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) over the department’s decision to stop providing behavioral health evaluation and treatment support for certain individuals being released from jail.When an individual with a serious mental health condition exits the criminal justice system or has their charges dismissed, DSHS is ordered by the court to offer an evaluation and if necessary, treatment. Sheriff's Office Unveils New Program
Sheriff Steve Mansfield will be starting a new program at the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office that he hopes will slow down a growing crime trend in Lewis County. The program, “Prevent Crime – Lock Your Doors Every Time,” begins next week. Sheriff Mansfield said, “Recently we have had numerous problems with vehicle prowls in our county. My office has developed an innovative program to help address vehicle prowls and thefts.
