The application period for Fiscal Year 2013 has closed. The Board of County Commissioners is currently accepting applications for use of hotel/motel lodging tax funds for the 2013 budget year from organizations whose programs or activities promote tourism in the unincorporated Lewis County area. “Tourism Promotion” is defined as “activities designed to increase tourism, including but not limited to advertising, publicizing, or otherwise distributing information for the purpose of attracting and welcoming tourists; and funding the marketing of special events designed to attract tourists.” These funds may no longer be used for the administrative costs of running an agency as …

Registration Deadline for Composting Education Workshops
The WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter (MRC) Volunteers will offer a series of composting workshops on May 20 at Salkum Library, 2480 US Hwy 12. Basic Composting will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Worm Composting will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Know Your Soils will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The general public is invited to attend any one of the workshops, or all of them. Special Meeting of the Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (virtual only)
The Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) will host a special meeting at 1:00 p.m. Jan. 10 to receive an overview of the Lewis County Solid & Hazardous Waste Management Plan draft update. A consulting firm, Herrera Environmental, has been working with the SWAC and County staff to update the document. After the overview, and a question-and-answer session, SWAC members will consider whether to recommend the draft document be approved and forwarded to the Department of Ecology for its initial informal review process.
