1. Lewis County Solid Waste Advisory Committee meets today (4/9)

    The Lewis County SWAC meets at 1:00 p.m. the second Wednesday of every other month in the new Lewis County Public Works Building, 57 W. Main St., Chehalis, WA 98532. If a regularly scheduled meeting lands on a holiday, members may elect to cancel the meeting or vote to meet on an alternate date. Meetings are open to the public, and offered online via Zoom.   2. Design

    The Engineering Design Section develops roadway designs using local and state guidelines required for traffic volume, terrain, design speed, safety features, storm water runoff, and environmental concerns. Design production may be handled in-house or by contractors. Designs for new bridges are contracted to a structural engineer. Once the designs are complete, staff members help prepare contract specifications for open and competitive bidding by road and bridge construction companies. Inspection of contractors' construction operation are also handled by the staff from the Design, Construction, and Survey Sections.

  3. Sensitive document shredding service offered in Chehalis

    Residents may bring up to 5 bags or boxes or sensitive documents they would like to have shredded. This is a free community service. The shredded paper will be recycled at a paper recycling facility. The event will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of the spring Repair & Sustainability Fair at the Chehalis Outfitters, 1757 N. National Ave., Chehalis, WA. Funded in part by a Local Solid Waste and Financial Assistance Grant from the Department of Ecology.

  4. Know Your Soil and How to Improve it with Compost!

    Know Your Soil and How to Improve it with Compost!: Attend this WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter workshop at 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Centralia Timberland Library to learn how to test your soil. By knowing your soil type (or which nutrients it may be lacking) you can make it better with compost.     CORRECTIONS BUREAU– CHIEF CHRIS SWEET The Corrections Bureau encompasses the Lewis County Jail. The Lewis County Jail was remodeled in 2005 and is approximately 69,000 square feet.The Corrections Bureau is comprised of a Captain, Lieutenant, six Sergeants, forty-one Corrections Deputies, an Administrative Assistant and five Support Technicians. CUSTODY DIVISION: The Custody Division is directly supervised by a Lieutenant and consists of four custody squads. A sergeant leads each squad and each squad is comprised of seven or eight Corrections Deputies. The Custody squads work 12 hour shifts, and have 3-4 days off per week.
