1. Other Community Litter Programs

    Volunteers in the cities of Chehalis, Centralia, and sometimes other communities in Lewis County organize volunteers to pick up litter. The city of Chehalis has a group of active volunteers called the Chehalis Clean Team. They have a group on Facebook under their name: Chehalis Clean Team and you can get more information from the city of Chehalis website: Chehalis Clean Team. In Centralia, the group of volunteers is the Centralia Clean Team. They have an active group on Facebook under Centralia Clean Team.

  2. Document shredding available at Randle event today

    The LeMay Mobile Shredding truck will be at the Community Recycle Event at the Lewis County (Kiona) Road Shop, 8911 US Hwy 12, Randle May 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents may bring up to 5 bags or boxes or sensitive documents they would like to have shredded. This is a free community service. The shredded paper will be hauled to a paper recycling facility for processing. Funded in part by a Local Solid Waste Financial Assistance Grant from Department of Ecology.

    Berteroa incana Hoary Alyssum - Plant is usually silvery-gray in appearance due to stellate hairs. 1-3.5 feet tall and functions as an upright annual, biennial, or short-lived perennial.Leaves: Plant has basal leaves that are larger and oblanceolate. Leaves gradually reduce in size moving up the stem with alternate leaf arrangement.Flowers: Blooming from May-August. Flowers bloom from the bottom up in simple or branches clusters.     Daphne laureola Spurge Laurel - An evergreen shrub that gets to be around 1.5 to 5 feet tall. Plants can either be upright or arched at the base before spreading upwards.Leaves: Leaves alternate and are more prominent towards the top of the shoots. They are dark green and shiny on the top with lighter undersides. Leaves are oval in shape and about 0.8-5.1 inches long.Flowers: Flowers bloom from March through June. Small, green and yellow flowers grow at the base of the leaves and are fragrant.Habitat: Commonly found amongst the forest understory.   5. Basic Composting Class

    WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers are hosting a Basic Home Composting Workshop at Centralia College East in Morton as part of the Repair & Sustainability Fair at 11 a.m. on March 22. Learn how to convert organic materials from your yard, garden, and kitchen into nutrient rich compost to improve your soil, promote healthy plants, and reduce pesky pests! Participants who are interested can enter their names into a drawing for a free compost bin. This event is free to the public.   9. Hazo Hut can accept used antifreeze from residents today

    Lewis County residents can drop off a maximum of five gallons of used motor oil and up to 10 burned out fluorescent lights at Hazo Hut at the transfer station in Centralia, 1411 S. Tower Ave. Unwanted household chemicals, excluding paint and PaintCare items (Please visit PaintCare.org to learn more about PaintCare items and find out where to drop off PaintCare items locally), and up to five gallons of used antifreeze can also be dropped off. This time is reserved for residential customers only. Business customers must make an appointment by calling 360-740-1221.
