Attend the upcoming CWMA meeting and gain some free Pesticide Continuing Education Credits!The first half of this meeting will be for credits. We will be hearing a presentation on the state monitor list from our state Weed Control Board Outreach and Education Specialist, Anne Schuster followed by an informational presentation from the WSU Integrated Weed Control Project director, Jennifer Andreas, on bio-controls. Noxious weeds are growing faster than you think! Multiple days of good spring weather in Western Washington may help pesky weeds get the jump on local farmers in their pastures, forest and gardens. Germination of seed and growth of weeds are very temperature dependent. The optimum temperature for germination varies for individual weeds but many can germinate at low soil temperatures with adequate soil moisture. CHEHALIS – A burn ban in unincorporated Lewis County will be modified, effective at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. Report cards educate Lewis County curbside recycling customers
CHEHALIS – Recycling waste has a positive impact on the environment and saves limited landfill space.Lewis County Solid Waste Utility’s recycling program recently surveyed what citizens are placing in their recycling containers. Twenty-thousand Lewis County households that subscribe to curbside recycling service had their carts inspected and tagged with educational information. The tags detailed what items are included in the county recycling program as well as common mistakes customers make, such as including plastic bakery boxes, plastic wrap or plastic grocery bags in recycling bins.“Customers can carry items to their recycling container in a plastic bag, but the contents should …
