  3. 11-Year-Old Tacoma Boy Drowns in Cowlitz River, Randle

    On Saturday, July 6, 2024, at approximately 10:58 a.m., Lewis County deputies and members of the Swift Water Rescue Team responded to the 200 block of Burton Creek Road in Randle, Washington, in reference to a reported drowning. Deputies learned that an 11-year-old boy, who was wearing his life jacket, had been paddleboarding with his father in the Cowlitz River near Carr Road when he struck a logjam and fell off the paddleboard.     Detectives with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office have been provided with an artist’s sketch in which they hope will help them identify the human remains found near Morton in April of this year. The artist’s rendering was made by studying the facial bones of the deceased female as an indication of what she may have looked like before her death.     The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is looking for individuals interested in serving on the county’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC), a group of volunteers who help develop programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal.Solid Waste Advisory Committee members weigh in on proposed rules, policies and ordinances, and they help Lewis County Solid Waste Utility staff develop a five-year “Solid Waste Management Plan” to guide how Lewis County manages garbage and recycling.
