Silybum marianum Milk Thistle - A large, sparsely branched thistle growing up to 6 feet tall. Easy to identify, due to the leaf patterning.Leaves: Alternate, deeply lobed, and pointed leaves. Leaves have a very noticeable white and dark green marbling. The basal leaves can get up to 20 inches long and 10 inches wide.Flowers: Flowers bloom from May-August. Lewis County solid waste sites open on Veterans Day
Lewis County solid waste transfer stations in Centralia and Morton are open regular hours on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Centralia is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Morton is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Remember that both sites close their inbound gates 15 minutes prior to facility closure. The Solid Waste Administration Office at the Centralia site will be closed for the holiday. It will resume regular hours on Monday, Nov. 14.

March Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at Morton Transfer Station
Residents may drop of household hazardous waste for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 U.S. Hwy 12, just east of Morton. Examples of household hazardous materials that can be dropped off are cleaners, lawn, garden, and pool chemicals. Businesses may not bring hazardous materials to the East Lewis County Transfer Station. For more information, please call 360-740-1221 or email swu@lewiscountywa.gov.
