Search and Rescue personnel located the 87 year old missing Chehalis man deceased this afternoon while searching a wooded area near his home. At about 5:35 pm Warren Neal was located just over a mile northwest of his residence. This location was among a trail he would frequent on his walks. Ailanthus altissima Tree of Heaven - A deciduous tree growing up to 60 feet tall. Plant parts may be identified by a distinctive peanut butter/popcorn smell.Leaves: Leaves are compound and alternate, and each leaf has anywhere from 10-27 leaflets usually. Leaflets are mostly smooth-edged, except for a few rounded teeth and a visibly large gland on the underside, towards the base of the leaf.Flowers: Flowers bloom from May-July. Trees will either have male or female flower clusters at the tips of the stems with the male flowers being larger. Flowers are light green-yellow in color.Habitat: Commonly found near forest edges, …

Weed Management on the Farm
A workshop addressing weed management on farm will take place on May 25, 2017, 6PM at the Lewis County Courthouse, in Chehalis. The two hour program will address weed control methods for some of the noxious weeds found in our area. Topics include: weed identification in annual and perennial cropping systems, integrated weed management strategies, poisonous weeds and where to find resource information about weed control. The program also qualifies for Washington State Dept. of Agriculture Recertification credits (2) for individuals who are licensed applicators. The program is sponsored by WSU Lewis County Extension.
