Residents may drop of household hazardous waste for free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Lewis County Central Transfer Station, 1411 S. Tower Ave., Centralia. Examples of household hazardous materials that can be dropped off are cleaners; and lawn, garden, and pool chemicals; fluorescent lights (up to 10 per household per visit); motor oil (up to five gallons per household per visit). Businesses must make appointments to bring hazardous waste to this site, and are not permitted on a residential collection day. For more information, please call 360-740-1221.

Christmas trees, holiday lights, cardboard shipping boxes, and wrapping paper can be dropped off for free at the East Lewis County Transfer Station, 6745 US Hwy. 12, just east of Morton, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. from Dec. 26 through Jan. 6, Mondays through Saturdays, except on the New Year's Day Holiday. Check in with the scale house for directions on where to drop off the holiday items for recycling. Artificial, flocked, or decorated trees will need to go in the garbage, where regular fees apply ($15 minimum fee for 280 pounds or less).
