Composting Education Workshops
The WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter (MRC) Volunteers will offer a series of composting workshops today at Salkum Library, 2480 US Hwy 12. Basic Composting will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Worm Composting will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Know Your Soils will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The general public is invited to attend any one of the workshops, or all of them. Last Weekend to Recycle Christmas Trees & Lights
Residents can drop off their Christmas trees and burned out holiday lights from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in the parking lot outside the Centralia transfer station at 1411 S. Tower Ave. This is the last weekend to drop off Christmas trees for recycling. Please remove all decorations and tinsel from the trees. Donations will be accepted to support WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteer community outreach programs. Flocked and artificial trees will not be accepted. Lewis County residents can drop off unwanted household chemicals, up to five gallons of used motor oil, up to five gallons of used antifreeze, and up to 10 burned out fluorescent light bulbs at Hazo Hut at the Lewis County Central Transfer Station, 1411 S. Motor Oil Recycling
What types of oils can be recycled as used motor oil? Motor oil is only accepted for recycling at the Central Transfer Station in Centralia on days that the Hazo Hut is open to the public. Human Remains Found on Joerk Road in Randle
Human remains were located by a property owner in the 100 block of Joerk Road in Randle on Thursday morning, September 22, 2011. Detectives of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office say it is a possibility that the remains could belong to a missing person reported to the Sheriff’s Office in April of 2011; however, there is not a positive identification at this time. The remains were located approximately 1.5 miles from where the missing person was last seen. Sensitive Document Shredding Event (Vader)
The Lewis County Solid Waste Utility is partnering with the City of Vader to offer Lewis County residents a chance to have their sensitive documents shredded, and then recycled. The event will take place at the City of Vader Public Works Shop at 376 7th St. Each customer may bring up to 3 Bags or Boxes of sensitive documents they would like shredded. The documents are shredded in the truck, and then hauled to a paper recycling facility.
