    The Lewis County Solid Waste Utility is a division of the Lewis County Department of Public Works. It operates transfer stations in Centralia and Morton, where all garbage collected in Lewis County gets dropped off and consolidated in containers to be hauled to a large landfill in Cowlitz County.LeMay is the hauler that collects curbside garbage as well as refuse from businesses, and brings it to one of the transfer stations.   2. Poison hemlock, poisonous to animals and man

    Be alert this spring for Poison hemlock (Conium maculatum), a noxious weed poisonous to sheep, cattle, swine, horses and man.  Animals can become poisoned by eating a small amount of the plant. Poison hemlock is common to Lewis County but not a wide spread noxious weed. Often it is associated with old farmsteads and disturbed vacant lots in urban area. The plant can reach a height of three to six feet tall and has light green foliage at flowering. Hemlock flowers in late May and June.     MIssion Statement The Lewis County Sheriff's Office maintains a group of specially trained and equipped deputies that are able to operate in a variety of tactical environments.   7. Tire Recycling in Packwood

    Lewis County residents may recycle up to 12 tires per household for free during this two-day event, today and Oct. 14, at the Packwood Community Hall. Tires can be passenger or light truck tires, on or off the rim, or semi-truck tires off the rim. The event will not be able to accept any other type of tire.     The Master Recycler Composters of Lewis County have officially opened the MRC Tool Bucket Library and the Floral Park Sustainability Park.
