Italian Arum from a friend’s garden is not a gift to your landscape
The Italian Arum’s common names of ‘Italian Lily’ and ‘Italian Lords and Ladies’ may stoke the gardener’s imagination but the actual plant is far from enticing. Aside from having poisonous plant parts, its single spadix flower is unpleasant-smelling. These disagreeable features however are not what makes this plant a noxious weed. Call for Citizen Scientists. Learn to Detect Invasive Plant Species
A volunteer effort to learn and detect invasive plants is underway by the Pacific North West Invasive Plant Council. A training for citizens will take place Thursday June 29th from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Old Credit Union Building, 156 NW Chehalis Ave., Chehalis, WA. The training will cover identification of plants, methods of manual control, along with how to conduct a survey. The work will support our local public lands including the National Forest and National Parks to document emerging invasive plant populations. MRC Tool Bucket Library Open House
The Master Recycler Composters of Lewis County have officially opened the MRC Tool Bucket Library and the Floral Park Sustainability Park. They are inviting the public to an open house from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at Floral Park Sustainability Project, 103 E. Floral St., Centralia, to learn about both community programs. The tool library is just like a book library, but it offers tools for checkout. Drop off yard waste for FREE today at Lewis County Transfer Stations! This event runs through May 13. CUSTOMERS MUST CHECK IN WITH THE SCALE HOUSE TO GET WEIGHED AT EACH SITE. THE WEIGHT OF THIS MATERIAL MUST BE TRACKED! In Centralia, grass clippings and leaves must be separated from chippable debris, such as branches.
