New broadband plan aims to gain federal funding to expand internet access in Lewis County

Radio Communications
Radio Service staff maintain and service a network of 22 communications sites throughout the county that provide first responder radio coverage.Additionally, they provide local trouble-shooting services (and limited technical assistance) to outside vendors to assist in identifying and making emergency repairs when equipment fails in the Communications Center.In 2019, they continued maintenance of mobile, portable and fixed base radio equipment for the county and agencies supported by contract.The Radio Services Administrator manages the Homeland Security equipment grants. 11-Year-Old Tacoma Boy Drowns in Cowlitz River, Randle
On Saturday, July 6, 2024, at approximately 10:58 a.m., Lewis County deputies and members of the Swift Water Rescue Team responded to the 200 block of Burton Creek Road in Randle, Washington, in reference to a reported drowning. Deputies learned that an 11-year-old boy, who was wearing his life jacket, had been paddleboarding with his father in the Cowlitz River near Carr Road when he struck a logjam and fell off the paddleboard. Addition to County Weed List
A small tree called, Tree-of-Heaven, will be considered an addition to the Lewis County Noxious Weed List in 2012. Tree-of-Heaven, Ailanthus altissima has been planted in landscapes as a small to medium sized deciduous tree for homeowners. Its placement on the noxious weed list has come about because of its invasive root system and prolific producer of new suckers or shoots. The plant produces toxins that prevent the establishment of other plants and has plant sap that can be a skin irritant to humans. Pre-Registration Program:The Lewis County Coroner’s Office (LCCO) has this program available where a person who is under a physician’s care for a documented long-term illness and who is receiving care (either from family or from a facility) can be enrolled in the pre-registration program.To be added to the pre-registration list the primary care physician has to complete and submit and a Lewis County Coroner’s Office Pre-Registration form that contains the patient’s demographics, the next of kin names and contact, and the mortuary of choice.
