Lewis County Sheriff's deputies join student leadership in youth traffic safety week at Mossyrock High School
MOSSYROCK - Lewis County Sheriff’s deputies, law enforcement officers and emergency medical professionals from throughout the county, and the student leadership at Mossyrock High School concluded traffic safety education week Friday, April 28. There was a mock crash and emergency response plus a court trial witnessed by the school’s over 200 students.
Deputies focused school zone patrols on seat belt use, speeding and distracted driving.
“They are all high contributors to traffic-related deaths to our youth,” said Lewis County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Godbey.
“We’re trying to educate folks on the consequences of texting and driving, and what serious dangers could happen,” warned Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza. “Don’t pick up the phone, don’t answer the text, it can wait.”
“We just want to make an impact on students on what a big deal it is,” Mossyrock High School ASB President Hailey Brooks said. “Definitely you can wait 15 more minutes to text your friend back; always keep your phone down and seat belt on.”
“What a team-effort and we’re so proud of the ASB, the school administration, and all the public safety partners for putting this together,” Lewis County Undersheriff Wes Rethwill said. “What an undertaking and hopefully an impactful week of events that will leave a lasting impression on the value and importance of traffic safety!”
