CHEHALIS – In an effort to help more dogs find their forever homes, the Lewis County Animal Shelter is holding a special dog adoption event – with extended hours and reduced adoption fees.

The shelter is reducing the fee for adopting adult dogs by 50 percent – dropping the fee to $100 – and extending its hours to 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 13, through Saturday, June 17.

The goal of this one-time, emergency reduced-fee adoption event is to encourage the public to adopt dogs that have been living at the shelter for an extended period of time. The Animal Shelter, located at 560 Centralia-Alpha Road in Centralia, is operating at or near capacity and would like to open up space for people needing to surrender their dogs before they are abandoned. A majority of the dogs in the shelter range in age from 3 to 5 years old.

“It is well known that from Memorial Day to the end of June is the busiest time of year for people to move, as schools are getting out for summer break,” said Joseph Henderson, Lewis County Animal Shelter Manager. “We are receiving calls daily from Lewis County residents who are moving and cannot take their dogs with them.”

The public is reminded that the Animal Shelter is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so the facility will not be open June 11-12.
