Lewis County seeks buyer for Mountain View Cemetery

After months of careful consideration, Lewis County officials have decided to sell the 28-acre cemetery the county acquired due to tax foreclosure.

The county took ownership of the Mountain View Cemetery, located at 1113 Caveness Drive in Centralia, in January 2023 following an unsuccessful attempt to sell it at a foreclosure auction.

Since that time, county staff and a team of dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly to restore and provide maintenance for the 125-year-old cemetery, which had fallen into disrepair.

The unpaid taxes on the cemetery total $36,317.23, which is the minimum amount the county will accept for the property. Interested parties are encouraged to submit proposals before the county’s first review of proposals, slated for Feb. 28, 2024.
